Last week, there was water drip in the bedroom from the indoor unit of split AC. I went to the outdoor unit located on the chajja (sun shade) outside in the balcony, suspecting water pipe choke. I found that somebody put the water pipe in vertical position and is above its elevation in the indoor unit. This chajja is accessible to anyone on the stairs of the apartment complex. While trying to put it horizontal on the window chajja by standing on the stairs floor and bending, I nearly lost balance.
I got doubt what should be the height of the guard rail and a search in internet and factory legislations mention
mostly the height to 36-42". The height of guardrail of stairs is 36". I feel this height may be suitable for most of the persons who are about 5 1/2 ft but not for persons of 6' height. The height of guard rail should be atleast 54". I had a similar experience about 20 years ago, this time at a construction site though the guard rail is about 42".
In my opinion, to protect persons from fall, it is ideal to have guard rail upto chest height of the tallest person in the shopfloor in a factory or building in a residential area and this may not obstruct/restrict anyone in rescue operations in an emergency.
